Keller, Inc. has been chosen as the architect and construction management team on a new 15,000 square foot building project for the Town of Freedom in Freedom, Wisconsin. The new building will include a brand new ground-up Fire Station and EMS Facility.
The Town of Freedom’s Fire Department is currently operating out of a Fire Station connected to the Town Hall, built in 1980. Additionally, the Fire Department operations flow into the Town’s original Fire Station next door, built in 1956. The existing facilities were designed to house a smaller staff with less equipment; the lack of space has created inefficiencies for the current staff, congestion in the apparatus bay, which, have hindered the department’s ability to adequately preform their duties.
With the extensive list of safety issues and overall inefficiencies with the current Town Fire Station, combined with the fact the Town lacks a designated Emergency Operations Center for disasters, a referendum was passed in January to build a brand new Fire Station & EMS Facility.
The Town Board, Building Committee, Fire Department, and EMS Department worked diligently to keep the community informed about the project; this building project would not be possible if it weren’t for the tremendous collaboration between these groups. The tremendous amount of community support from Town of Freedom’s residents was the key to pushing this project forward.
An official groundbreaking event is scheduled for Friday, May 15th at the facility’s future location on the northeast corner of County Road E and Schmidt Road in Freedom. The project is projected to take roughly seven months to compete, and should be finished by winter of 2020.
