Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin honored Keller, Inc. with a GOLD Projects of Distinction Excellence in Construction Award for Mineshaft located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The Mineshaft project is a 36,600-square-foot restaurant, including a large commercial kitchen, dining room and game room by Keller, Inc., who integrated a mineshaft theme into all aspects of the design. The exterior looks like an old western mining shack that would have been common in the mid-1800s, while the inside resembles an actual old timber framed mineshaft from the same period. After six years of planning, bank financing issues and site search, the project landed on an old abandoned Walmart site at a prominent Oshkosh intersection to become the largest dining and gaming facility in the state. The city of Oshkosh provided many obstacles with specific and expensive exterior requirement and an attempt to burden the owner with city storm water improvements, which resulted in endless city meetings to achieve approvals. Keller continued to modify the design to meet city and bank requirements.

The project was judged in a rigorous process by a panel of construction experts based on a number of criteria, including safety, quality, owner satisfaction, execution and coordination, budgeting, difficult and unusual challenges and overall distinctiveness.

The Projects of Distinction Awards is designed to recognize the most distinct construction projects in Wisconsin, and to elevate the awareness of the quality construction performed by ABC member firms and their employees. A virtual awards presentation was held January 28, 2021 to celebrate the company’s given these prestigious awards.

Keller designed and built the 7,800-square-foot office addition to serve as N.E.W. Plastics’ new corporate office. N.E.W. Plastics is a leading innovator in plastic recycling technology for more than four decades, making plastic containers and plastic lumber. Their lumber, in combination with stone, brick and glass, makes for an attractive Class A office space in the middle of a small town in Northeast Wisconsin. The two-story entry atrium brings light deep into the office space and makes for a dramatic display of the exposed steel structure and the finishes exemplify the innovative nature of the company. The tight jobsite presented challenges, including no access to the plant side of the building, which called for a long crane for steel picks. Keller built through a harsh winter in Door County to get the job done on time. The finished product is a stunning addition to a unique Wisconsin company.

Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin honored Keller, Inc. with a SILVER Projects of Distinction Excellence in Construction Award for Dreier Family Dental located in Janesville, Wisconsin.

The Drier Family Dental project includes a 7,200-square-foot, state-of-the-art clinic next to the previous location in Janesville. The owners wanted something more than ordinary and not just another clinic. The facility has 14 treatment bays with an open feel, while still maintaining patient privacy and an abundance of windows. It includes a stone-clad fireplace, floating shelves and a courtesy bar that feels more like a café hang-out than a typical “waiting” room. The main patient seating area takes the form of a taller cube-shaped volume, with the entrance framed in a black ACM panel-clad canopy roof, which wraps down in a “waterfall” effect. The exterior has LP Smart-siding and Longboard wood-look aluminum siding. The site design had to account for two underground high-pressure gas lines with limited ground cover that required a creative solution for both the driveway and storm water piping.

Keller, Inc. has been chosen as the general contractor on a building addition and remodel project for Liesen & Pinzl Dentistry located in Woodruff, Wisconsin. Keller, Inc. was responsible for the ground-up construction of this facility back in 2009.

Liesen & Pinzl Dentistry was founded in 1988 when Dr. Liesen and Dr. Pinzl began practicing dentistry together. They individually practice between two locations, offices located in Park Falls, Wisconsin and in Woodruff, Wisconsin. In March of 2020 they welcomed their daughter Dr. Lauren Kessinger to the dental practice. Together, Dr. Liesen, Dr. Pinzl and Dr. Kessinger offer exceptional full service dental care for the entire north woods area.

Construction will begin in February 2021 at the facility’s current location at 240 Oak St. in Woodruff, Wisconsin and is expected to be complete in June 2021.

Associated Appraisal worked with Keller, Inc. to design and build a ground-up 9,480-square-foot corporate office. Understanding and developing the client’s vision for flexible space, natural light, open office concepts and modern design elements can be clearly seen and felt in their new office. A great deal of attention was paid to value analysis and engineering throughout the design and construction process. Job flow, weekly job meetings and crew management allowed Keller to drive construction schedules and keep on task. Dedicated crew foremen and supervisors paid close attention to quality throughout. The largest hurdle to overcome throughout this project was maintaining a tight design and construction schedule to maintain the agreed upon completion dates. The finished product is a great example of developing a client’s dream, and reimagining what a working environment can be.
