Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin will honor Keller, Inc. with a GOLD Projects of Distinction – Excellence in Construction Award for this project on Thursday, January 15, 2026, in Wisconsin Dells.
Project Overview
Lion Performance Hall began as an ambitious dream to breathe new life into a vacant 1898 Methodist church in Richfield, Wisconsin. Owners Theodore and Sacia, both classically trained musicians, envisioned transforming the historic structure into a magnificent yet intimate concert venue – a space where chamber music could be experienced as it was meant to be: close, resonant, and emotionally immersive.
Working closely with the owners, Keller’s employee-owner design-build team reimagined the church into a premier recording and performance space that balances artistry, functionality, and reverence for the original architecture. The project included a complete interior renovation and an addition to provide modern amenities such as accessible entrances, restrooms, lobby space, and an office – while preserving the character and craftsmanship of the century-old structure.
From the outset, Keller’s team approached the project with care and technical precision. The exterior addition was designed to complement the historic Cream City brick without replicating it, creating a visually distinct yet harmonious connection between old and new. This approach preserved the church’s original stained-glass window above the stage while allowing for a modernized entrance and lobby experience.
Inside, the transformation was both aesthetic and acoustic. The interior design blended warmth and sophistication, integrating contemporary finishes that respect the building’s historic charm. Keller collaborated with an acoustical engineering firm to achieve superior sound performance – installing custom sound clouds, insulated ductwork, and precision baffles to enhance resonance and clarity. The result is a space that serves as both a live performance venue and professional recording studio, equipped with state-of-the-art technology and crowned by a meticulously restored Steinway Model B grand piano.
